The Cricket on the Hearth is a novella, or short story, written by Charles Dickens and first published in the Christmas of 1845. It was the third of the five Dickens’s Christmas novellas (which also included A Christmas Carol, The Chimes, The Battle of Life and The Haunted Man and the Ghost’s Bargain). It was published by Bradbury and Evans on 20 December 1845.
